How do I set a My Sounds recording as a ringtone?

Alright, so I have a Verizon wireless flip open Samsung cell phone, and in the manual it says you can record new sounds and set them as ringtones, but it doesnt tell how. I have some songs recordings I would like to use as a ringtone, but it doesn't allow me to. Help, anyone?
