How do I set up voicemail for T-Mobile? It won't allow me.?

The T-Mobile website says, to create set up voicemail. Call your voicemail and follow the instructions.

Except when i call voicemail it doesn't have instructions. It just asks for the 10 digit number to access your voicemail, then when I enter my 10 digit number. It says my number is invaild.

How do I set up voicemail?
