How do I talk to a boy I don't even know?

So, there's this guy I've seen around school and I like him so bad. I don't know why, but I just do. We've locked eyes before, and it was just a jolt to my heart, then we both smiled back at each other. I haven't felt like this since my last crush, the problem is I don't even know this guy. No mutual friends, no classes, I don't even know his name. All of my friends say I should just go up to him and start a conversation right off the bat, but that just seems sort of awkward...does anybody have any advice for me?
