...time? i have started a relationship with a man i went to high school with 43 years ago. Things were going fine until i noticed that he talks constantly about trivial matters i could care less (I went to culinary school). I've got the basics and more covered. But he constantly talks about things i already know about and it is becoming boring. I really care for this guy and when we do things outside of my apartment that distract him he doesn;t do it so much. How do i get him to understand that we need to step our conversations to the next level....

Why not just tell him you want to speak of other things, and change the subject? Go to movies, or bowling or any shared activity that you can discuss mutually. If you really want to take it to the next level, you are going to have to be able to talk frankly to each other. Give him books to read that you are also reading and you can discuss. Talk about current events.

Some people just happen to be very trivial. The trick is to get him on a topic that you know more about. Also, it helps to do something stimulating, like walking while talking. It will ensure that, if you're keeping a brisk pace, he wont have enough breath to rant.
