how do i text on my new blackberry phone?

my friend sold me the phone. it looks new but i dont know how to text!!! i cant figure it out. i dont even get the txt messeges that they send me.. what do i do
i could text with my other cell phone.

when i click the person that i want to text i dont see MMS
it says nothing about texting wen i choose the number
 
I have a blackberry pearl and to text they are many ways to do it.
1. Go to address book. select the name you want to text. click menu and select SMS text or
2. Go to message and click menu anywhere and select compose sms text or
3. Go to call log and select sms text after selecting menu to the person name you see.
If that still don't work than you need to go back to the person who sold you the phone and ask them for help.
