how do i turn off motorola droid a855 lock?

From the home screen, touch the applications tab (located on the bottom of the screen).
Touch Settings.
Touch Location & security.
Touch Set unlock pattern.
If presented, touch Next.
If presented, touch Next again
Touch and draw a pattern on the screen connecting at least three dots.
Touch Continue.
Redraw the pattern then touch Confirm.
If the display is dark press the Power key.
Touch the unlock pattern on the screen.
Unlocking the wireless device if a lock pattern is not set

If the display is dark press the Power key.
Touch then drag the lock symbol to the right hand side of the screen..
 
my touch interface stops allowing me to touch it from time to time then comes back i need to figur out how to completely disable the lock so i can just navigate my phone with the d pad i do not have coverage on my phone i know a new touch interface would be ideal but if i could just make the lock go away that would be awsome

all i use my phone for is google voice for texting some help would be awsome thank u have a nice day
thank u to the first answer but my touch is goin out i got it workin again right now but im trying to make the lock go away completely to were when i hit the power button it doesnt bring up a lock at all instead the homepage for my phone comes up but thank u any other answers for me
