How do I unlock a Motorola BP6X phone so I can use Metro PCS on it?

My friend has a crappy phone that doesn't work anymore and has this Droid, but it's not a Metro PCS phone. How can he get his Metro PCS service running on the BP6X? I appreciate the help!
***********************WHOOPS. That's the name of the battery... I meant the Droid A855
 
He can get it flashed at a store for $10. $15 to port a cell phone number. However, he won't get internet or picture messaging.
