Before I tell you the issue, let me give a tiny bit necessary info. So, its been 1.5 years since we took in a stray, male cat. He's comes in to eat, drink, and sleep for some hours, and then he goes back outside to potty and enjoy the outdoors. My family and I are thinking about making him an inside cat forever, since he's injured himself outside before, but it might be a to big of a responsibility for us. So we've kept it on hold for now.
So about an hour ago, at like 3:am, my cat Thomas came from outside and was wet, really dirty, and muddy. I dried him off with paper towels, but the dirt remained. I'm thinking of giving him a bath in the morning, but he's extremely afraid of water. I'm thinking of Getting him washed at Petsmart or Petsco, but the idea of just giving him seems weird. I've heard giving your cat a bath yourself increases trust. Plus they might require that the cat be neutered, sprayed, and vaccinated. Since he's so dirty, he's in the garage right now, alone, cold. I left him food, water, and his bed. It's these moments when I realize me and my family can't support a cat. I think of giving him away but then I feel like I'm abandoning the poor kitty. I'm so close to him. He always shows me how much he loves me. The thought of the uncertainty and helplessness kills me.
I wanna wash him, but I don't know how and it's such an extreme task. I wanna get him washed, but it'll require vaccinations and i'll have to hand my cat over to strangers. There's no way out!
I don't know what to do!!
Do I wash him myself?
Do I have him washed?
Do I give him away?
