I am going to be driving a lot this year across Ireland so I will need a Sat Nav to find out where i am going. I saw a Tom Tom for €89 so i was thinking about getting that. But i haven't got a clue about them! I don't want to ask stupid questions in the shop
Do i need to get one installed in my car? Do i need to connect one to my computer first?

If you buy the satnav in ireland it will work right out of the box, Just attach it to your windscreen and tell it where you want to go.
If you buy it elsewhere then it might not have Irish maps on it so you would need to Go on the tomtom website and buy the ireland map pack,

I'm pretty sure they all come with UK/Ireland maps though.

How it works is basically the satnav has a small chip in it that talks to satellites and figures out where you are,

Tomtom is probably one of the best companies to go with, The only time you would need to connect it to your computer is to add different voices, Map pack or install updates.

Tom toms are pretty easy to use and everything is fairly obvious. once you get your hands on one you will figure out how to work it without needing to study manuals etc. lol

A Tomtom is very easy to use - just take it out of the box, stick it on your windscreen, plug in to your cigarette lighter, and switch on.
It's literally Plug and Play - just enter your destination, and it will take you there.
By the way, ignore all the stories about people driving into rivers etc. - all it takes is a bit of common sense.
If it tells you to turn into a field or a goat track, just carry on along the road until it finds another route - your position is being updated all the time, so you always know exactly where you are.
