how do u edit the time of a song and clips on imovie hd?

im making a vid and its 4 an xtra credit assignment 4 summer skool and its about my life (rly imprtant events) and its about 3mins. and the song is like 5 min. i cant pick a shorter 1 cuz the 1 i picked is perfect 4 my vid. its awaken the dreamers by all shall perish. i know it sounds odd but we cud choose any song, no matter wat. and it goes gr8 wit my vid. so anyway: HOW DO I EDIT THE LENGTH?? ALL ANSWERS WILL HELP!!
