how do u unlock a verizon samsung shc u740?

I have a Samsung sch u740. got this phone from my neighbor for my girlfriend. As soon as it comes on it asks for an unlock code that's 4 digits. But no one knows the code. my Verizon store dosnt have tech support just sells. Anyone help me out?
