How do you become a pilot?

I had a dream where I was flying a plane, so I'm a bit curious of how I could become a pilot. I live in Vancouver BC Canada, when I was in my driving school my teacher was saying, "its too bad we aren't in Richmond at the moment, its a beautiful day and they are letting people observe for free."
