How do you get past the snake in the Harry Potter years 1-4 DS video game?

i have a nintendo DS... i'm stuck in year 2 at the dueling club. i have to speak parselmouth to the snake by hissing into the mic. every time i do, it never works and i feel like an idiot for hissing at my DS. i have replayed this part many times to try something different, but every time i try, it never works. please help!
