How do you install a new shifter and brake lever on a bike?

i need new shifters and i am going to get SRAM twist shift shifters, but im not sure if tehy come with cables or not, but i already have the cables already on my bike and i was wondering how to remove the cables from my old shifters onto my new ones and put them into the new ones. please use as much detail as possible. also would it be the same to remove and install teh cables with the brake lever?
 
The SRAM shifters will come with an instruction sheet. You can go to the SRAM web site and download the manual. Make sure you get the right shifter, they have a 1:1 and a 1:2 ratio.
