No dont update. If you do then u wont be able to jailbreak anymore. To jailbreak go to the official dev teams page www.evasi0n.com and download evasi0n for your pc. Then open it and plug in you device and basically just follow the instructions on it. Once you jailbreak you will have cydia on your ipod. You wont be able to get installous because the developers shut it down. For the ipod touch 5 there is no thethered jailbreak. A tethered is whenever you ipod shits down for any reason (manually, low battery; etc. then u will have to plug it and boot tethered through redsn0w.
