How do you keep kids interested in a lecture on note-taking?

I've been asked by a relative who's a teacher to do a four-session (1 hour each) lecture in this summer advancement class for incoming high school students (13-14-year-olds, entering their freshman year). The students are from an all-boy school, and there are about 25 of them, at last count from the sign-ups for the summer classes. The topic I'm supposed to do is note-taking, both for in-lecture and readings note-taking.
I don't really have experience doing lectures, especially to a young audience. Any ideas or tips from real teachers or lecturers out there?
