How do you keep sausages from bursting while cooking?

I've tried piercing them first, I've tried cooking them slowly, quickly - they always burst. I know it doesn't affect the taste, but it looks awful. Any ideas?
 
parboil first. bring a quart of water to a boil turn off the heat and throw the sausages in and cover for 10-12 min then grill or saute till they achieve the desired level of browning. low to med heat is the key after the parboil.i've been doing this for 10 years and it works every time.
 
You can't keep them from bursting without defying the laws of physics. Sorry.
