I've got a really good beginning and plans for where my story is going to go, but the first book needs to be set in a secret town. It's a modern fantasy, and there's magic in it, although the stuff people can do is kind of limited. Put simply, someone wants to kill a boy and so he's sent to this secret town for his protection. He then discovers that someone in the town is trying to kill him as well.
I've thought up all the scenes where he almost gets killed/learns of the person trying to get him, but its meant to be spread out over a novel, and I don't know what to fill the rest of the book up with. I'm planning on making it 75,000 words long. Apart from the scenes with the would-be-murderer, how can I make the plot interesting? He can't leave the town, so I don't know what else I can add that'll make it more exciting.
...I want it to stay interesting throughout. Any tips/things that you think will help?
I was thinking of adding a crush, but would that be enough to fill up a whole book?
