I really don't want to get training wheels because I'm afraid that make the situation even more embarrassing as he is Chinese-American. Any suggestions?

give him a helmet and send him on his way.

it might hurt, but he'll get it.

I honestly think it's highly impossible.

You're an adult, and you should just get on that bike! There's no way in hell you can still be scared to get a few scrapes.

smaller bike so he can reach ok if he has to thats really nice of you to do that but im telling you some assholes gonna make fun of youre question good luck

Well, I learned when I was 27
I was afraid first and tried to ride on small distances in a yard but it didn't work. You need space. One day I have tried on the street and I couldn't believe myself that I was riding. Btw it was a neighborhood street with almost no traffic. I stopped if a car was coming. It might help if the street is gentle slope downhill.
Ah, I learned the hard way that I need to...use the brakes.
In time, about a couple of months, I became better and better to guide the bike through small openings and keep my balance.
Now I am a pro.

teach them the same as you would a child if there imbassied do it in privet

Easy.

Firstly, one needs to learn balancing on 2 wheels. Look for a gentle slope, get the bite on the higher end and learn to balance the bike as it comes down the slope without pedaling.

After one is confident about balancing, then one can learn to pedal the bite and here it is one knows how to cycle.

: )
