How do you unlock a mobile phone?

I have just bought a brand new Nokia 6500 slide and it is locked to Orange (I am on O2), how do you unlock it and where can you do it, is it possible to do it online?

You have to pay around $15 to get unlocked, there are few websites do it. My bf got it unlock for me for $14.99 from some website.
 
i dont think you can do it on line because i believe something has to be done with the phone itself, bring it into any "alternative" phoneshop, and get it done, most towns have places to do this, and cities are flush with these shops.
