How does BitTorrent work please?

I was recommended Bit Torrent as a source of downloading films but I dont quite get how it works. The 2 files I tried to copy said they werent compatible so can someone please tell me how to use it in simple terms? Thanks

Go to www.isohunt.com put in any movie you want click on it and press download and it'll download straight to your computer once it has downloaded go to your files a file called downloads will be there click on it and it'll be there

Go to a torrenting site such as kickasstorrents.com or piratebay. Download the torrent and open the file in Bittorrent. Click start(unless already prompted") and just wait till it's finished.

I used to torrent but I quit since my sister got caught. I stopped now and i never torrent anything. I don't condone it either. Just be aware it is illegal. Although getting caught is rare, be prepared for 120k fine if u do.
