How does converting to another religion work? (Atheists, help me here)?

I used to be a Christian, but I don't believe anything in the bible. (Except for historical fact, which is scarcely mentioned.)
I don't know what my religion would be considered. I believe in something, I suppose. Not God, but like a supreme force sort of thing. I want a logical explanation for why everything is the way it is, and I can't think of one so I don't think I am supposed to know. I think when you die, your energy doesn't die (Scientifically speaking, energy cannot be created or destroyed), and it may take another form. I don't know, and I'm not going to change my way of life because of religion.
I dislike all these dogmatic systems that are made to create explanations, and people live out of fear of what will become of them. With intelligence, we tend to organize everything. Create categories for these things to fit in, and perhaps religion breaks off into categories.
After all, religion is purely cultural.
I'm a little scared to deny there is a God, because I'm concerned something may happen to me. Some sort of karma, or macabre punishment for being recalcitrant.Yes, that is a little naive, but hey, I'm only 15. Still a kid...
I don't know how to convince myself that nothing will happen if I convert, but my logic is conflicting with my anxiety.
Maybe I'm over-scrutinizing; after all, I'm very confused.
