how good are the handheld steamers?

you see them on tv and you can steam anything
can you really steam anything
does it leave moisture as it dries
and how does this not prevent molding or mildew
also
how well do they actually work
do they actually kill the germs and do they actually remove the dirt and grime like they are supposed to???
also any other information anyone has on them is great
im thinking aobut buying one and i want to make sure they are worth it
also which ones are the best???
