I would just start by plainly introducing yourself, unless there's a mutual friend- then have that person introduce you. If there's mutual gossip [ like if you go to the same school or work at the same office], talk about that. Ask her if she likes some of the biggest hit shows right now, like True Blood, Mad Men or Entourage.

If anything dont act as if you are approaching her just to hit on her, especially if she is an especially attractive person cus in most cases someone who looks like they get hit on alot would immediately catagorize you into a group with all the other average jow smoes who are as predictable as the rest.

Be in the same area as her and act like your focusing on something else so its almost an award for her if she gets your attention cus they wouldnt be the only thing your focusing on. Start with small talk and a smile look elsewhere but keep your body in an open friendly stance. It makes people curious as to whats going on in your mind. A mysterious person is one that keeps people around long enough to see what your about.
Say something amusing or peculiar about your day or your surroundings cus its the one thing that you would both have in common, and lastly try not to immediately show off all aspects of your life cus women know that your trying too hard even if you dont realize it yourself.
There are so many rules but overall if you execute the steps confidently and dont show nervousness and or mean what you are doing ... its shows a strong stable personality.
