I'm writing a story, and this would be the beginning, but not the whole first chapter(just what I have so far). Opinions? Thanks in advance!
He darted down the stairs and pushed open the heavy double doors. “Hey, wait up!” Liam called out, pulling on his hat and rushing to catch up to his roommate. Eric had already crossed the road and was turned down a small dirt path in the woods, anxiously checking his watch. He caught up to him quickly and jogged past, flashing his friend a grin as he passed. Accepting his challenge, Eric began to jog after him.
“You know it’s your fault we’re always late.” Liam lightheartedly pushed his shoulder. “My fault?” he asked innocently.
“Yes, your fault. One more stunt and you’re sleeping outside. How long did it take you to gather all those pinecones anyway?” They weaved around a couple of trees and dodged the low hanging branches. As they reached the end of the trail, the forest cleared and the main high school building came into view. The two boys scampered up the hill as the first bell rang out. They reached the sidewalk and slowed, joining the last few students straggling in.
Inside, the students milled around at the lockers preparing for the day. In the cafeteria to the left, breakfast was ending and students were filing out. Eric looked mournfully at the closed double doors as his stomach rumbled. They continued up the stairs to their senior lockers. Quickly gathering their books, they crossed the hall to homeroom. “Mondays….” Liam sighed.
