How long do print heads last?

I've been looking at the HP Officejet 6500 series. I want to print a lot of photos, a little smaller than full page, but not daily or weekly. Right now I have a Lexmark x1270 and ink cartridges for it are just too expensive compared to the HP cartridges.

Does anyone know how long the print head lasts? And if this is a bad choice for me, what's a good color laser printer less than $100?
 
color lazer printers start at $300 and go up i have never sean one for $100 or less that said most color lasers are good for 5000 pages
