How long does it take to get a Passport for leaving the U.S. ?

Is it like a month of waiting...or is it like 4 months??? j/w because I want to do this study abroad trip where I go to Brazil exchange program through ISEP...I need to know my expenses,etc and if it's good get my passport...I need to have the $ by April 2011 so idk if I get the passport in April will I have enough time leaving in June?
