I have four - two in the US and two in the UK - my mom's best friend (US), my dad's best friend (UK), my uncle (US) and my aunt (UK).
Before we moved to the US (four years ago), I saw my UK based godparents a lot, especially my aunt. However, since living in the US, I don't see my godparents here that often, as they don't live in the same state as us. My uncle lives in New Jersey and my mom's best friend lives in Nevada.
I get on well with all of them, they all take an interest in what's happening in my life and stuff, and I feel confident that should anything have ever happened to my parents, that at least one of them would have definitely 'taken me in'.
I'm Jewish, but I still have Godparents who will, as far as I'm aware, become legal guardians for myself and my brother if, G-d forbid, both of my parents passed away/disappeared. In fact, we both have two godfathers and a godmother. One set of godparents (one male + one female) are married and have a daughter anyway. The other godfather does not have a family.
I've just got a godmother, and she's the woman that was my mothers best friend all through her childhood and teens. We haven't seen or heard from her in years and years though. She didn't really do much as a godmother... I remember that I used to get birthday gifts from her when I was little, that's all.
3- two female one male as I believe the tradition goes :yep: they're all just close family friends, one my mum knew from med school and the other two they know from music-y whatsits.
I have 2, my godmother is a friend of my Mums from when she training to be a nurse and her husband. I havent seen them in years. My children havent been christened/Baptised so they dont have any godparents. My brothers godmother is our Mums sister.
