there are 1000's of martial art styles
tkd has over 75, there is over 300 hundred kung fu, japanese jujutsu has over 500, karate i'm not actually sure there are 8 styles recognized by WUKO but then there are sub-systems of those 8. if i had to guess i would say about 40 to 50
edit:> pugpaws perhaps i mis-quoted something about tkd, i then, i may have mixed it up the numbers with kung fu. i'm getting old and senile perhaps
I don't know about there being hundreds of Taekwondo styles as Shihan J mentioned. I'm aware that there are more than 75 different styles of Taekwondo, that are recognized as legitimate by the Korean Government.
No one knows but Black Belt Magazine many years ago, stated that there were at least 300-400 different styles of Kung-Fu.
Karate has many styles and sub styles. It is hard to get an accurate number. There are both Okinawan and Japanese styles. Some of them have both a Japanese and an Okinawan version. Goju-Ryu is one of them. Shorin-Ryu has three main branches they are: Shobayashi, Kobayashi, and Matsubayashi. All three are Shorin-Ryu but slightly different. Then there are other lesser known styles that came from these. I have only mentioned an few of the well known styles. There are many more and as I said many times styles that have split off of them as well.
I dont know about the others but there are literally hundreds if not over a thousand styles of Kung Fu. Kung Fu is a generic term describing all Chinese MAs.
Dude, that is a loaded question that will take all day to answer. There are so many different denominations do to some one taking what they like and scrapping the other stuff. Jujitsu was taken and formed in to judo for example. Kung fu has way too many styles to name.
