In 1969 we got 3 channels at my house in Upstate NY. A CBS, NBC and ABC outlet for sure. We got our first UHF channel sometime around then, whcih would have made 4.
Now, my grandmother lived in Utica, and SHE had cable because the signals from Syracuse wouldn't come into the valley. I think she had 8 or 9 channels. Loved to go there to watch Yankee games!
It all depends on where you lived.Most major cities had ABC,CBS and NBC affiliates.They also had some form of PBS.And very few cities had independent channels like WGN of Chicagn average people could get between four and eight channels.This depended on the size and strength of your antenna since there was no cable tv at that time.
