I have a 2001 (Mk4 i think) Golf GTi 2.0 8V. Yesterday i put in engine oil because the oil level warning light was on but I think I've put in far too much because when I put the foot down to overtake someone this morning white smoke started coming out the back. I pulled the car over, switched off the engine for a few mins and when i restarted the car and drove on to work with minimal revs there was no sign of the smoke.
I put in 5L (the whole thing) which im guessing is far too much? it's the right kind of oil because i checked my manuel and double checked with Halfords.
How much oil should i have put in and how do i remove the oil i dont need?
I have to drive it home tonight, it's only 10 miles so I can't do too much damage if i keep the revs low yes?
