How much is a replacement iPhone 4 after warranty?

My warranty of 1 year has recently expired and I'm having trouble with my iPhone. I was convinced it would have been full price for exchange without warranty, but the Apple retailer claimed it was 169$ for a replacement, meaning I would give in my old phone. Has anyone done this/can confirm its validity?

i think it is actually going to be the full price of the phone which is like 500 dollars. but i'm sure you could sell your phone and get some money for it. through the phone company. i did taht with sprint with my htc evo, paid 100 for it and got 87 bucks
