How much is iPhone refurb?

For anyone who understands how AT&T and iPhones work!

Right now I have a Blackberry Curve, on a family plan with my mom and sister. We have unlimited messaging, but no data plan. I am aware of the required $30/month data plan for iPhone.

I am not due for an upgrade until October, therefore I want to buy the iPhone 3G black refurb now.
Someone posted on an AT&T forum saying they wouldn't let her upgrade to the iPhone refurb because her contract wasn't up, but surely if I am willing to pay for it.....
Also, does the unlimited messaging carry over?

Is it worth it, or should I Just wait until October? :(
Is there somewhere else I can get one from?

So many questions any help is appreciated THANKS!

Were you planning on purchasing the refurbished iPhone from the AT&T website? If so, you will not be able to purchase it with an upgrade. I tried to purchase one from the website as an upgrade and it said only new customers who are adding a line are eligible for any of the iPhones online, whether it's brand new or refurb.

To answer your question though, the 8 GB refurbished iPhone is $100 with a new contract (not an upgrade.) The Unlimited Messaging would carry over.
