I don’t want to start out huge. Maybe 2 to 5 trucks in the beginning. How much capital will cover the startup cost (i.e. tractor-trailers, insurance, land to park on, maintenance, and other little hidden cost of doing business)? Would the SBA help at all? And as a follow-up, how much should I expect to pay my truckers?
OK, to start off, I want to pay truckers a % of the load, buy all trucks used, dry van type trailers, and transport intrastate. I will do more research and if I decide to do it I'll take on an experienced trucker as my partner if necessary. Right now I just want a general idea of what I'd need in terms of capital. Thanks.

As far as paying the driver's you need ti figure out whether to pay them a percentage of the load or by the mile. As far as trucks are you planning for "Interstate" or "Intrastate"?
You need to think about Insurance, fuel, registration (for each state), IFTA. What type of truck? Cabover, Conventional?
Used or new, Flatbed, reefer, dry van, Heavy haul, tank?
There are alot of variables to consider & what you need to do is some research on prices of tractors & trailers etc.
