How much will it cost to replace a heating core in a 1996 Toyota Tercel? ?

Any idea how much it should cost an honest mechanic to replace the heating core in a 1996 Toyota Tercel. I would like an estimate so I know if I am being told the truth. I absolutely can't buy a car now (economy) and need her to get me through a few more months (please!). Thank you!
 
A friend of mine just had the heating coil thing in his car burn out earlier this week.
He said it would cost him a whole lot, somewhere around 200 I think.

His car's a lot older and a trans am I think....
But maybe that'll help you ball park it.
