How realistic is "Pat" Morita's fighting in Karate Kid?

I'm not criticizing karate, and I know its stupid to draw conclusions from Hollywood, but in the scene where Mr. Miyagi is busting the teenager's butt in the movie seems a bit... unconvincing. I mean, he doesn't seem to have a lot of power, and yet he has the kids rolling around on the ground for a long three minutes. I know that Karate is not about super strength and that a good knowledge of human anatomy is good, but is this really what a 68-ish year old karate guy can do?
