How safe currently is internet explorer today 20th Jan 2009?

Last night I saw on the news that IE is still being swept by a virus !

Is this true?
I thought the problem had been fixed with a security patch!

How safe currently is internet explorer today 20th Jan 2009?

If it is still unsafe how can I fix it because IE feels so comfortable to me and the others frustrate me?
 
I heard this also. Internet Explorer evidently have "Holes" in it where viruses can infect your IE. My thought really is that they will never be able to fix them all. To tell you the truth: the internet isn't safe. Internet Explorer isn't safe, neither do i believe would any other Internet browser be, since most other browsers are made with the same programming languages (C,C#,C++,BASIC,Delphi,Pascal etc.) they would most likely all be vulnerable to the virus. This is too my understanding and my not necessarily be reliable. Basically you have to keep yourself safe from the internet because your browser can't do it for you.
