I'm looking to travel to the PNG (Port Moresby and Lae) and was wondering how safe it is for an American lady traveling alone. I am 35 and of mixed descent (black and white) if either are relevant. Will I be relatively safe if I follow normal precautions (i.e. not roaming at night and no flashy jewelry etc). I have never been out of the United States so I would appreciate some insight.
Can you offer any other helpful advice and what would be some of the safer places to see? I also heard it's not common for a woman to take a taxi by herself. Is this true? If so how do you suggest I travel through town. Thanks in advance for any advice
