How should i approach picking up my ball python?

I just got a new ball python. It isn't a new born and it was born in captivity. Im assuming its a few months old. I'm just not really sure how to pick it up. Im kinda nervous it may bite.

touch it on its side so that it knows that you are there and them pick it up gently around its mid section. don't to wash your hands before pick her up and again after you have held her.
