My uncle has this notion and he loves to spout it at work (we have a very open debatable workplace but we love it) and this conversation always goes the same. There are 14 people that input into this argument and not a single one (besides my uncle) is racist and thinks my uncle's ideals are ridiculous.
My uncle argues that you cant possibly name any one black person who has done something meaningful or inventive in their lifetime without the aid of white education or whites in some way. (My uncles theory is, whites are superior than blacks, but if we pull him up on calling blacks inferior he says he never said nor thought that?!) We have been through lists of black people who have done things and every single time he argues that that person studied under white people's education system. We have tried arguing that if black's were left to their own devices without our ancestors taking over their lives and that of their children then they may have come a lot further than they did. Basically my uncle wants us to prove him wrong by finding a black man (or woman), who lived off the land and still invented something. Today one of my co-workers arguments against all this was that if WE (white people) had of followed the black people then we wouldnt have half the problems we have now- alcohol, drugs (well im sure they had some drugs), global warming etc... this is all caused because of what society has become. If we followed the black people into the outback and did as they did, we wouldnt be such a fat world with fat people. But no matter what we say he says that black people cannot take any responsibility for any inventions because they studied under white peoples education system. When we brought up the chinese and japanese inventions he even claimed that they copied white people's education etc.
Something i thought about later was that technically, white people copied black people then. I mean, it wasnt the white's who thought up using a stick with a pointy thing to ward off enemies or kill animals to eat them later. There are many possibilities but no matter what we say my uncle is always spouting his crap. Any way to win this debate or should we just give up?
PS pls dont tell me to go to a union or anything about the fact that this gets talked about at work, this is just a friendly debate, just like his debate about homosexuality being wrong (another thing NONE of his co-workers agree with) lol. He just likes to try and make us think his way- but that wont ever happen.
