How to avoid stale tobacco in London?

Yesterday on three seperate occasions I bought stale tobacco searching for some that wasn't in London. How can this be avoided because it has happened before. I buy Golden Virginia by the way. What is the problem of the people selling it, is there any particular shops where it will be new?
Worded that wrong, meant i was searching for some tobacco that wasn't stale, in London.
Ok cool. I will try the potato peel thing and in future got to a shop with a high turnover. Please can someone explain the potato peel mehtod in more detaill.
 
Go to a shop witha high turnover - it's less likely to be stale. I'd suggest a major supermarket as the best bet.

Alternatively, do as a previous answerer has suggested - put a piece of potato peel (or a small lump of potato) in. Or a piece of carrot, apple or celery.

An explanation of WHY: the potato (or celery or whatever) has more moisture wihin it than the dried out tabacco does. Over a period of time ( a few hours usually) the moisture contents equalize themselves - the potato dries out a little (it goes limp and rubbery) and the tobacco gets moister

An explanation of HOW: cut a small lump of carrot/pot/celery. You'll need a thin (4-5mm) slice measuring about 1cm x 1 cm. Pat it dry with a tissue or a cloth (it must not be wet) and place it in the tobacco pouch. Keep an eye on the baccy - when it feels nicely moist, remove the piece of vegetable. It's really that simple, but the important thing is to keep an eye on the baccy - it can easily get TOO moist, and wet baccy is a ***** - it rolls too tight and won't burn anyway!

Incidentally, I used to use apple as it imparted a nice flavour, but apple can often be too moist to work well. I'd try potato/carrot/celery first
 
He means the reason he bought three packs was that each one he got turned out to be stale, so he was searching for another one that wasn't stale, but he has still in London! Don't be so pedantic you lot!

Most supermarkets have tobacco stores at their doorway - the turnover will be faster there so it should be recent batch numbers, and you can pretty much rely on it not being hookie or counterfeit.

Because there are less smokers, a lot of old stock is about. I used to put some potato peel in mine to freshen it. I don't know what you mean by searching for some that wasn't in London. Where were you searching then.
