Im a guard and want to be able to score as well be a very fast and responsive defender.

Like what are the tips to put pressure on the defender to make them make more mistakes while i guard him.

And can anyone tell me any drills to practice my shuffling and speed while defending?

If you're like me you love the game of basketball. As much as I love good offense, stretches of good defense can be a beautiful and exciting thing to watch. On the other hand bad defense can be excrutiatingly painful to endure.
these are the following steps you should follow :

  1. THE THINKING MAN
Make the decision to be a better defender. Though it may sound cliche I believe all change begins with the conscious acknowledgment of a need for it.
  2. Step 2
Have a defensive game plan before you step on the court.

The three simple strategies that I teach are as follows:
    1. Opposites disrupt- Make shooters drive; make drivers shoot; make ball handlers pick up the ball; make lefties go right etc.

    2. Constriction- Take away the other scoring options of the team by playing good off the ball defense. If your player can't get the ball, he can't score, period.

    3. Effort- Dive for loose balls; box out; harass the ball handler; put a hand in the shooters face, etc.
  3. Step 3
    THE DREAM!
Practice your footwork. A mentor of mine told me once, "Improve your footwork by 10% and improve your defense by 100%."
There are four basic movements to practice.

    1. Slide Left to Right
    2. Slide Right to Left
    3. Stepping Back
    4. Stepping Forward
  4. Step 4
    Beautiful Form
    Practice hand and arm control-
Dropping your hands is a sign of defeat. When you practice sliding and stepping also practice keeping those arms out like eagle wings w/palms forward. This makes you wider and harder to get around by dribbling.
  5. took th pics from th net to explain to you ...go buddy rock and don t let the ball pass...:)
