Rachel ...Take the two motors and point them at each other use a coupling that connects the shafts together put a spool piece between the couplings for the lifting cable to wrap around . Support the spool on each end and bolt the motors to a plate to keep them in-line. Install a heavy relay or switch that will energise one or the other motor but not both at once. One will raise one will lower..Remember with out using a worm-gear reduction system the spool will turn backwards under load. THIS IS ONLY a MODEL and you SHOULD NOT actually USE THIS IDEA...
Do not do this. You need approval of a lot of regulatory government groups before you can install or use an elevator, due to the possibility of causing death or injury. And you will not get that approval.
