...and everything? I have one coworker who I relieve at the end of her shift who I honestly cannot stand anymore. She is always complaining about someone or something. As soon as I walk in the door it starts. Every time I see her she is attacking someone new. In her eyes, no one here knows their job but her (even though most people here have been here longer then her). She says the company would fail without her and they should fire *enter her victim of the day here* because they don't do their job right. Of course, none of this ever gets said to their face, when she sees them she acts so sweet and nice to them like they are best friends.
She complains because she has to do her job while she is at work (shocking). She works only about 3 days a week and if she works those 3 days in a row, there is hell to pay. She asks for so many days off that sometimes that only leaves her with one shift a week and she screams other people should be giving up their days to her. She said not long ago she prefers weekends because she doesn't have to worry about childcare, so she gets her way on that and screams she shouldn't have to work weekends because she has kids, and people without kids should be working the weekends. When I told her you wanted to work weekends she said well things have changed.
She is the boss's pet, she is always kissing the boss's ***, buying her stuff and acting so sweet to her so the boss looks at me like I'm crazy when I address this with her and basically says I'm making this up. We are a small company so no one above the GM I can go to and no HR.
I haven't had a day off in several weeks due to someone walking out on the shift I work and no one else being able to work this one, so I'm exhausted and to come in and have to listen to her has got me the point where I'm ready to lose it. When she complains about someone, I'll let her know what day they work next and say discuss it with them or when she complains about doing her job I say the GM will be in in the morning, talk to her and it works for about 2 minutes before she starts to complain again. The other day when she complained about working certain days I said please I am tired, I'm working 7 days a week I don't want to hear petty complaints about what days you think you should and shouldn't work and all she did was come up with excuses about why I should be able to work it and why she should be able to get off the days she wants.
I am at my wits end, because of her I've been busting my butt looking for a new job when I get off of work in the morning (which is very hard with the high unemployment rate in my area, but I am determined to get away from this). Short of looking her in the face and telling her to shut the **** up, is there a more professional way to possibly get her to shut up? She has lived a very privileged life from what I can tell, and I kind of think she is used to getting her way and is upset that outside of her home life, she can't always get what she wants.
Anyone who has ever dealt with a coworker like this, do you have any tips on what works to shut them up? I don't want to cause a fight and want to handle it professionally.
Thank you
Thank you so much Brittney, the voice thing on the phone was a great idea! I'll have to try that when I see her in a few days
