how to deer hunt a creek?

There is a creek that runs through woods on both sides. The woods have no real vantage point as I have no tree stand and you can't see to far. So I was thinking about setting up on this narrow creek probably 20-25 yards across where I can see down both sides... Would this be a decent Idea? and if so what time would be best to see a deer I do have a doe permit for the area...
