How to didcate memory for graphics.?

HI every one i just want to know that how to dedicate RAM for graphics.latest laptops like core i5 or i7 comes 1GB dedicated memory for graphics but core i3 comes with shared memory. I just want to know that is there any way that we could dedicate some memory for graphics in core i3 laptops? Is dedicated memory effects on movies graphics or its only for games ?? sorry for my poor english as it is my 3rd language..
