how to drive stick shift?

let's say your coming to a red light and your on gear 4th what is the easiest way to stop and go without stalling. people told me to put it in nuetrol but some say that messes up your car some told me I have to shift down but buy the time I shift down from 4th gear I will probably hit the person in front of me..
 
neutral and apply brake.....then put it in first to start off......

every car made since the 50's has synchronizes so u can do this....

in fact downshifting usually causes more trans and clutch damages than it prevents....
 
The way i do it is to first engage clutch, put the gear into neutral, and when you approach the stop, put the gear into first or second depending on your speed, i have a tendancy to start slowing down from far away so my car continuously rolls and doesnt actually stop at a light, and by the time i get there its green, this way you can keep the gear in first or second and when the light turns green, pop the clutch and let her rip.
