I am curious how to approach fixing such a problem
I have found my dream bike and would like to have it running smoothly
What engine would be similar, so i could swap in a new one
Any advice would be helpful
ITS A 1974 HONDA RD 200
2 STROKE

Honda built many different bikes in 1974. Be specific and I can help.

Rebuild the top end and head (if it is a 4 stroke)
Rebuild the top end and resurface the head (2 stroke)

There are many China made Honda knock off engines available on the internet (but they are junk) that would bolt end depending on the model

first off, I hate to inform you but Yamaha made the RD200 not Honda...

as for fixing a compression leak, new rings or piston kit if that is where you are loosing compression.

having the head planed if it's warped.

http://www.bikebandit.com/houseofmotorcycles/yamaha-motorcycle-rd200a-1974/o/m7504 has various diagrams to cruise thru to see how it all fits together, but finding parts could be a real issue with a 35 year old bike...

good luck!
