How to keep my mobile number when switching to T-mobile?

I would like to keep my current phone number to make it easier for people to not add my new one. However I was ordering my phone over T-mobile website wishing to keep my old phone number. and it asked for a "wireless number"?. I used the online chat and told me to click no because I can do it later when setting up my account...

However today I received an email saying my account has been activated and gave me a whole new number (my phone is delivered to me tomorrow).

Is it still possible for me to still keep my same number or no?
 
I'd talk to T-Mobile and they should be able to buy the phone number from your old provider. Sometimes you can't though. AT&T for example won't let you take a phone number to another provider.
