how to keep quiet...?

i'm usually a quiet person. so i always keep my thoughts to myself. but i don't get along with my mom at all (like we hardly have a decent conversation ever) and she's always nagging and complaining about stuff even though i clean and get great grades. so what i want to know is how do i keep quiet when she yells at me? i have the urge to explain myself but she takes it the wrong way and thinks i'm being disrespectful.... what can i think about to calm myself down while she screams? thanks.
 
just be like it's not even worth it.. and just listen to her and when she's done talking just leave...that's what i do..
